Today I'd like welcome Roy Huff, author of "Everville - The First Pillar" to the Thursday interview. Before we get started, intro please!!
Roy Huff is the best selling author of Amazon/Kindle's bestseller #2 epic fantasy and #3 young adult teen fantasy novel Everville The First Pillar, installment #1 in the Everville saga series. He has many interests including science, traveling, movies, and the outdoors. He holds five degrees in four separate fields including liberal arts, history, secondary science education, and geoscience. Roy Huff has backgrounds in art, history, education, business, real-estate, economics, geoscience, and satellite meteorology. He was born on the East Coast but has spent more than half his life in Hawaii.

No.1 Would you break the law to save a loved one? ... But why?
I would definitely break the law to save someone I loved, assuming the law being broken didn’t involve doing harm to another innocent person. In general, it’s a not good idea to break the law, but an artificial societal construct designed to maintain order is not absolute and should not prevent someone from doing the right thing as opposed to the legal thing.
No.2 What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Being alive simply means meeting the scientific definition of brain activity and having a pulse. Truly living means understanding the possibilities, maximizing one’s opportunities, and being happy with oneself.
No.3 What motivates you to write?
I am motivated to write in order to create something unique and pass something on to my posterity. Creating something and watching it come to life in words and pictures is a great feeling. If something I write can touch someone else in a positive way, it’s a beautiful thing.
No.4 Why do human's want children?
Humans want children in order to improve upon themselves. They want to afford the opportunities they missed to their offspring. They want to create a life that will continue their legacy while teaching the child how to avoid the pitfalls they themselves had to endure.
No.5 What was the biggest challenge in creating your book "Everville" ?
The biggest challenge was finding the time to write with such a busy schedule. In addition, creating a book involves more than just writing. It involves research and marketing. Once the writing is finished, the work has just begun. Without following through on the legwork to promote the book, no one will have the opportunity to read the words that were written down on paper.
No.6 What is the most important thing you have learned in life so far?
I would have to say finding a good editor is the best advice I could give. I would strongly recommend getting the book proofed by three or four additional sets of eyes after the final edit just to make sure the work that was created is given a sufficient chance to succeed.
No.7 How did you come up with the title " Everville" ?
The title Everville came from some of the dialogue in the first couple of chapters. It matched the position of the Fantasy world in time and space and seemed a good fit. The First Pillar was created further in the story as some of the plot lines developed.
No.8 How do you handle personal criticism?
I try to learn from constructive criticism and use it as a tool to improve my work and myself. If the criticism is unwarranted or simply cruel, I do my best to disregard it and accept it as simply one of the negative aspects of my life. There is no sense beating up oneself on mistakes; it’s better to learn from the mistakes.
No.9 Why should people read your book?
People should read my book because it’s unique, fun, and entertaining. There are lessons to be learned and hopefully it can inspire others based on those lessons. For sci-fi fantasy fans, there is a lot of character and world creation along with intriguing elements that are thought provoking and engaging.
No.10 Why is there something rather than nothing?
As Rene Descartes so eloquently stated, "I think therefore I am." The fact that we are thinking proves our existence. Further, the absence of matter or thought alone doesn’t necessarily equate to nothing even if our existence were in doubt. The absence of something would still be absence. Absence itself can be lonely, serene, or peaceful. As such, even absence is something.
